Preparing For Our Journey

On Sunday, November 8th, we will leave our home to fly to Manaus, Brazil via Miami.  We are scheduled to arrive in Manaus around midnight.  The next day we will board the Seabourn Quest to begin our 41 day cruise.  Manaus is the largest port city on the Amazon River (population 2,000,000).  Our journey will take us out the Amazon River with several stops in Brazil, then continue south along the coast of South America with stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Montevideo, Uruguay; the Falkland Islands; Antarctica and Patagonia.  We are very excited about experiencing this part of the world for the first time.  Also, we are looking forward to sailing with Seabourn again.  The Quest is an identical ship to the Sojourn that we sailed around the world on last year, except that the Quest is double hulled for sailing in icy waters (and we are very happy about that).  The ship holds 450 passengers and we understand that this cruise is sold out.

The packing challenge for this trip is the various weather conditions we must prepare for.  We start out in Amazon jungle heat, then go through temperate weather further south, then frigid temperatures in Antarctica and Patagonia.  Somehow, we must squeeze lots of layers of clothes into our suitcases.

We will miss our family and friends back home, but we both enjoy sharing our travel journal with y'all.  Please send us your comments via this blog site.  It feels so good to hear from folks back home when we are far away.

Our next post will be from Brazil as our journey begins.
